Health or Wealth - if you choose

Health Vs Weath - which you need to value ? Apart from work, this week is a Health learning week for me, where I spoke with 4 pax about health related topics: 1. A 98yo healthy and fit man who discovered that he had a tumour in his liver; operable as his health is good. The Senior Doctor who attended to him, tried to find out his secret of keeping fit and alert. 2. A retiring Senior, for some reasons, who chose not to utilize his company health screening packages for many years. 3. Another Senior who took his health screening, found out that his Cholesterol LDL exceeded borderline limit. Earlier he thought his was better than my LDL result. Lol that he may retire earlier than 69yo! (64 + 5). 4. This younger chap shared his Skill Future 2-day Fitness, below: https://www.myskillsfuture.gov.sg/content/portal/en/training-exchange/course-directory/course-detail.html?courseReferenceNumber=TGS-2023020428

Formula for CPFLIFE Payout calculator

I asked CHATGPT to provide a formula for female: * to compute the CPFLIFE monthly payout from age 65 to 70 * based on RA balance at $500k to $1,000k. * Assuming yearly topup to its yearly ERS limit, till age 70. * Basic Plan: The formula is: At 65: Monthly payout ≈ 0.51% of RA Each year delayed (with ERS top-ups): Multiply previous payout by ~1.10 ~~~ based on above true payout case at your 6% p.a. payout rate: CPFLIFE monthly Basic Plan payout: 0.51% of RA Balance @age 65 = Payout@65 . Each year delay in payout, which one continues to topup to its yearly ERS Limit: Payout@65 x 1.1 ~~~ Check: RA Balance @age 65: $535,000 CPFLIFE monthly payout = 0.51% of $535,000 = $2728.5 p.m. (= which matches the true payout of the 67yo female case)

LDL Cholesterol, Exercise, Diet

Sharing: LDL Cholesterol and Jogging I thought jogging 2.7km can reduce my LDL Cholesterol.  After jogging almost daily for a year,  * my LDL remained unchanged, raised from 148 to 149 mg/dL * my weight increased by 0.5kg * my BMI: 23 ~~~ I thought jogging adjusting my jogging to longer distance 3.5km might reduce this LDL. However, I spoke with a colleague of his finding. He jogged for 5km and yet his LDL did not reduce. The verdict: Diet control! ~~~~ Triglyceride and alcohol/diet My Triglyceride raised from 48 to 69 to 104 mg/dL, results from year 2023 to 2024 to 2025 health screening. Although 104 mg/dL is still (below desirable range of 155 to 190). I recalled what I ate or drank: * Alcohol * Protein meats, soya bean * Buffets ~~~ My Takeaway 1. Watch my diet 2. Maintain exercise 3. Lose weight slightly 4. Less/no alcohol 5. Protein from non-meat 6. Lesser Buffets

How we see ourselves aging?

We can really see children grow by the months.  Our aging is seen through their growths. ChatGPT says: 1. "We can really see children grow month by month — and through their growth, we see our own aging." 2. "Children grow before our eyes, month by month. In their growth, we quietly see our own aging." 3. “Watching children grow each month reminds us how time is passing for us too"

Microplastics in bottled mineral water

Does microplastics on bottled mineral water sink or float? ChatGPT replies: It depends: * microplastics in bottled mineral water can either float, sink, or stay suspended, depending on their properties.  What Determines Whether Microplastics Float or Sink? 1. Density of the Plastic Different plastics have different densities.  For instance, polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) are less dense than water, so particles made from them tend to float.  Plastics like PET (polyethylene terephthalate, often used in bottles) or PVC have densities closer to or even greater than water, so they may sink or stay neutrally buoyant. ~~~ My Takeaway (my opinion only): * If you drink from bottled mineral water,  - pour away some water on top, and  - don't drink last bit of water.

My Inspiration: My Grandfather

An elementary school student writes  "My aspirations" Not to be a President, Not to be a Doctor, Not to be a Scientist, None of them. My future aspiration is to be a Grandfather, which is great. Because my Grandfather : Can sleep in the morning, Can take a nap, Watch TV and go to bed early in the evening. No homework, No summer and winter homework, No tuition. ~~~ When you have nothing to do, you can go under a tree to cool down, Or go to the park to find someone to play chess with. No one cares how long you play video games. Drink coffee in the morning, Drink tea in the afternoon, Drink wine in the evening, Be happy like God. The bus is free, and if you meet a kind person, someone will give up their seat. Riding the high-speed train and watching movies is half the price. Eat whatever you want, The hot ones include oyster omelet, rice cake, tempura, vermicelli soup, stinky tofu, grilled sausage, radish cake, etc. The cold ones include tofu pudding, shaved ice, papaya milk, i...

Why Fund Price not daily updated?

*How come Pimco GIS Income Fund Admin SGD (Hedged) daily price is not updated daily?* It is a common observation for investors to feel that mutual funds, like the PIMCO GIS Income Fund Administrative SGD (Hedged) Income, are not updated daily, but the reality is slightly more nuanced due to how these types of funds operate. ~~~~ Here are the key reasons why you might not see a "real-time" price update like a stock: * NAV is Calculated Daily, After Market Close: The fund is an Open-Ended Investment Company (OEIC), or mutual fund, not an Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) or a stock.  * Its price is the Net Asset Value (NAV) per share, which must be calculated based on the closing prices of all the underlying bonds and derivatives in its portfolio. * Since the portfolio holds global fixed-income securities that trade in different time zones (e.g., US, Europe, etc.), the final, official NAV can only be determined after all the relevant global markets have closed for the day. * De...

Manulife Longevity Symposium

 1. I attend Manulife Longevity Symposium yesterday (6 Sep 25) at MBS.  I spent the morning there, along with many Seniors.  The free breakfast and lunch were generously good.  2. Manulife, like AIA Vitality, launched its "Manulife Move" yesterday. 3. The Symposium has 2 parts; 3 panels sharing on the perspectives; amongst: * MP Jasmin Lau who was ex-DS(P) MOH. * Dr Chong, MD HCA Hospice * Dr Tanujaa, oncologist, Parkway 4. Four Takeaways: * Plug in and join early in these Communal events, They are meant for us.  If you dont join in now, what makes you think that you will join later, when much older?  Build friendships now. * Eating 25g nuts (not peanuts) daily can extend your life by 1.5 years.  Sleep 30min more each day another 2.5 years. * Beyond health and wealth, the end-game is: Do you have a fulfilling life?  * Rewirement, not retirement mindset.  Think this is an important mindset for our aged Seniors.  "Many wait to live & d...

Compare NTUC INCOMESHIELD PLAN

If you are near age 61 to 65 range, you may face my situation of having to pay for higher and rising premium cost.  This may cause you to re-consider to downgrade your H&S coverage.  (H&S: Hospitalisation & Surgical). ~~~~~ Compare NTUC Incomeshield 1 . Enhanced Preferred with rider.  -$3k max limit cap (panel doctors) -$5k bill max cap (non-panel doctors) -Pte Hospital "A" ward.  -$1.5M bill cap per year -Pre-consultation: 180 days -Post-treatment consultation: 365 days -2025: $6,272 (for age 61 to 65) -Pay by Medisave: $1666.65 -Pay by Cash: $4,606 2.   2025: Total premium for @age 62 Incomeshield with As-charged, co-assist rider; wow. $4,606+1,666 = $6,272 this year 2024: Total premium for @age 61 $1,639 + $4,046 = $5,658 p.a. Last year I paid $5,658 ~~~~ NTUC Incomeshield: 2024: $5,658 2025: $6,272 Rising H&S cost just quietly crept in. Not even hospitalized,  and need to fork out $5k ~ $6k p.a.

Madoff Vestment @Manulife

AirBnB: No property but a landlord. Booking.com: No hotels, no aircrafts, yet a hotelier or Airliner.  Manulife Vestment: No invest, still can pay 9% p.a. lifetime + guaranteed capital upon death. "Prof. Madoff  paradox". ~~~~ On Manulife Vestment product, Adam always advocate that one should stay invested; lest the value of our assets will devalue over time due to inflation. Manulife Vestment is the total opposite to this principle. 1. It does not invest our funds; yet it pays us 9% p.a. lifetime; earns 1~2% p.a. fees. 2. Its entry age is 0 to 70.  So, new born can borrow money from parent to invest in Vestment. After 10 years, return 90% back to his parent. Yet enjoy lifetime 9% p.a. passive income. * $1,000,000 x 0.09 = $90,000 p.a. lifetime payout, or $7.5k p.m. lifetime passive income from age 11, after returning his parent money. * The teenager will not need to work his whole lifetime. * His parent just need to give him a Retirement seed $100k.

DBS Invest Makes Simple

I noticed dbs Invest offers good list of funds, easy to find prospectus, fund info, charts, dividend history at one place. Wonder anyone has tried it?  Heard no platform fee, just Fund charges.  I also noted My Maribank Cash investment is auto-sync via SingPass to the DBS NavPlanner for networth consolidation. ~~~ My Takeaway 1. If DBS INVEST can provide what Maribank offers and no platform fees, I would consolidate my Unit Trust with DBS; all in one place and easy to manage. 2. But DBS had failed us in the High Notes saga!  So, take our own risk and research

My Maribank Digital Bank investment. Not bad return

My Maribank investment Backgnd on my Maribank Invest Income I started my first $25k cash investment on 31 May 25. To-date, I earned my first monthly interest of $135 on 31 Jun 25. Annualised interest: ($135 × 12)/$25,000 × 100% = 6.48% p.a. To-date 1.  I have topped up my Maribank Invest Income portfolio from $25k to $100k (on 15 Jul 25).  On Annualised, I should get ($541 × 12)/$100,000 × 100% = 6.49% p.a.  2. Next day (Day1), my portfolio falls (due to daily Fund Price) below my monthly payout of $135 from earlier Jun 25 dividend. Day 1: From $100,000 + $135 -->> $99,976 Day 2: From $99,976 recovers to $100,188 My Takeaway 1. Don't lose sleep with the daily Fund fluctuation.  Just an illustration only. 2. Daily Fund prices will fluctuate.  3. I would keep $5,000 of the dividends compounded in the account.  In this case: $541 × 10 = $5,410.  This is to provide some buffers from my $100,000 and to sleep well above my principal invested. ($5,000 f...
